Founded by Jules Dervaes in 2001, Path to Freedom is a grassroots, family operated, viable urban homesteading project established to promote a simpler and more fulfilling lifestyle and reduce one family's "footprint" on the earth's dwindling resources.
Since the mid 1980s, all five members of the Dervaes family have steadily worked at transforming their ordinary city lot in Pasadena, California, into an organic permaculture garden supplying them with food all year round. |

The development of agriculture in New Zealand has been by necessity export based. New Zealand markets are typically too small to justify widespread adoption of new agricultural technologies without overseas markets for the products of such farming. From small beginnings in the early 1990’s, exports of New Zealand organic products have increased by 775% to reach export sales of around $70 million for the 2000/2001 year. Combined with a thriving domestic market, total New Zealand organic production is estimated at over $120 million. The Organic Products Exporters of New Zealand Inc, (OPENZ), has helped the industry achieve this spectacular result, and is working hard to sustain the momentum as demand from international consumers continues to surge. |

New Zealand Organics Ltd was early to see an opportunity to be involved in the international trade of organic produce and initially developed exports of New Zealand organic squash, kiwifruit, avocados and berryfruit. As we start the new millennium we are seeing a worldwide increase in the production of organic produce together with growth in the organic retail sector. We have no doubt that the demand for organic produce will continue and in response to this New Zealand Organics Ltd is now developing markets for fresh New Zealand organically grown apples and Kiwifruit. |
